The BWF World Junior Championships 2024 are underway in Nanchang, China. The solo championships, Eye-Level Cups, are scheduled to take place from October 7 to October 13, 2024, while the mixed team championships, Suhandinata Cup, were held from September 30 to October 5.
This is the famous age-group competition's 24th edition. In the mixed team championships, Indonesia defeated China in the final with an impressive performance to win the title for the second time. Brief History
The BWF World Junior Championships gained recognition as the premier junior competition in the world as soon as it was introduced in 1992 as an individual event in Jakarta. Justian Suhandinata, the Honorary Life Vice President of the BWF, was a major force behind its establishment.
In the mid-1980s, he got sponsorships and invited the best junior players in the world to organize the Jakarta Open Junior Championships. This competition served as the model for the World Junior Championships.
Eye Level Cups
The Bimantara Cups, named for the Championship’s first corporate sponsor, were the original names of the individual event cups. This name was in use until 2010. The 2011 BWF World Junior Championship introduced five new individual prizes, the "Eye-Level Cups."
Korean educational services provider Daekyo sponsors the yearly junior tournament under a deal that runs until 2020.
The winners of each of the five individual championship events will get scholarships from Dr. Kang Young Joong, Chairman of Daekyo and a former President of the BWF from 2005 to 2013. The total prize pool available will be USD 36,000 per year.
Anti-Doping Education
The BWF has decided that players must finish anti-doping educational activities before competing in China's YONEX BWF World Junior Championships 2024, in line with Clause 17.2 of the BWF Anti-Doping Regulations.
This implies that each competitor needs to complete an anti-doping education course before flying to Nanchang for the Championships. To compete in the BWF World Junior Championships in 2024, you must do this. Member Associations must provide BWF with proof that each participant heading to Nanchang has successfully completed the anti-doping education course by Friday, September 20, 2024.
