Chou won his 10th career World Tour win at the BWF Arctic Open 2024 on Sunday, October 13, after coming from an early lead in the second game. Han Yue of the People's Republic of China was the women's singles champion.
Chou lost to the Indonesians in three strongly debated games in the 2018 final, so the outcome is a sweet kind of revenge. Viren Nettasinghe, a 21-year-old Sri Lankan, is Chou's last-16 opponent.
Chou Tien-Chen beats Jonatan Christie
In their men's singles final match at the BWF Arctic Open 2024 on October 13, Chinese Taipei's Chou Tien-Chen defeated Jonatan Christie 21-18, 21-17 in a challenging game to earn his 10th World Tour badminton title. Chou won his first Super 500 title since his victory in Thailand in 2019 after coming back from down in the first game.
In the first game, Christie had a slim one-point advantage at the half, but little stayed between the two elite shuttlers. Chou settled into a rhythm, leading by two points, leading to a close game up to the end. Before Chou once more gained the upper hand and won the opening game, the two were tied at 17–17.
Chou Tien-Chen Performance
Chou was playing behind after Christie took control in the second and opened up an early four-point lead. At the halfway break, the defending All England Open winner was in control and appeared certain to force the third and final match. Chou, however, was unstoppable and fought his way back into the game, taking the lead for the first time at 17-16 in the second.
After exchanging points, Chou had a significant two-point lead that was eventually too great for Christie to overcome.
Han Yue Success
Han Yue of the People's Republic of China defeated Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand 21-10, 21-13 in the women's singles final to maintain her title. Han defeated the former world champion in back-to-back games in less than forty minutes.
With the score tied at 5-5, the Chinese shuttler got off to a careful start before Han scored 14 points. Han gradually increased her lead in the second game before bridging the gap with five points in a row to take a 20–11 lead.
Although Intanon made one last effort, Han's successful march had already started.
