British racer George William Russell is a current Formula One driver for Mercedes; from 2019 to 2021, he raced for Williams. Following his victories in multiple karting championships, such as the CIK-FIA European Karting Championship in 2012, he repeated his success in the 2017 GP3 Series and the 2018 Formula 2 championships.

He took for ART in both of these campaigns, making history as one of only three drivers to win both championships in his rookie seasons. Russell joined Williams in 2019 after winning the Formula 2 Championship, and he made his debut at the 2019 Australian Grand Prix.

In 2020, he replaced Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes for the Sakhir Grand Prix, although he was unable to win the Grand Prix because of strategic errors. Russell left Williams in 2022 to race with Hamilton for the Mercedes team. Russell has been a part of the Mercedes Junior Driver Program since 2017.

George Russell Disqualified

Lewis Hamilton won the Belgian Grand Prix thanks to George Russell's Mercedes Formula 1 car being disqualified for being under the 798 kg minimum weight. When the FIA weighed Russell's car for the first time, it was found to be 1.5 kg underweight. This was after the Briton removed 2.8 litres of petrol from the tank to get a one-litre fuel sample for examination. The car had originally been weighed at the minimum 798 kg weight limit.

George Russell Controversy

The Chief Communications Officer of Mercedes F1 Bradley Lord recently talked about Hamilton's planned exit at the end of the current season. While admiring the British icon's successes, he continued by stating that his record of six world titles with the Silver Arrows will not be matched anytime soon.

In a startling turn of events, Hamilton revealed in February that he would be joining Ferrari in 2025. In advance of his twelfth and last season with Mercedes, where he has triumphed in every championship save one, he decided to take off on a new journey by competing in the iconic red Ferrari.
