In honor of journalists killed and injured in the line of duty, the Olympic torch was carried in Paris on Sunday by a photojournalist from Lebanon who received serious injuries during an Israeli strike on south Lebanon.

Starting in May, the torch relay is a component of the events where about 10,000 individuals from different cultures were selected to lead the flame across France before the Games opening ceremony on July 26.

On October 13, 2023, Christina Assi of the news agency Agence France-Presse (AFP) was one of several journalists hit by Israeli weapons while covering a firefight between Israeli troops and Hezbollah terrorists near the border.

News Lebanon Israel

A BBC analysis showed the scope of the damage caused by nine months of war between Israel and the Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah. Thousands of buildings and vast stretches of deserted land have been destroyed along the Israel-Lebanon border, and satellite photographs, radar data, and military operation records show that entire villages have been uprooted.

One day after the Israel-Gaza war broke out, Hezbollah fired weapons into Israeli positions, claiming to be acting in solidarity with the Palestinian people. This was the start of the present combat. Israel's military attack on Gaza began on October 7, 2023, in response to Hamas's unprecedented strike on Israel.

Hotel strike

Some of the biggest hotel chains in San Francisco may have to deal with a walkout by thousands of workers as early as next month, following months of contract negotiations that have not resulted in an agreement.

For the San Francisco hospitality sector, which continues to fight to recover from the COVID-19 outbreak, a strike would be the latest setback. Additionally, it comes with a statewide increase in hotel labour unrest, with 40,000 Unite across the country.

The contracts of the workers here are about to expire, and union locals in Boston and Providence, Rhode Island, have declared similar strikes, putting further pressure on employers during talks about contracts.
