At Sunday's Hylo Open 2024 badminton tournament in Germany, Malvika Bansod of India lost the women's singles final. Malvika Bansod, the sixth seed in the BWF Super 300 tournament, lost to seventh seed Mia Blichfeldt of Denmark 21-10, 21-15.
Malvika Bansod defeated Julie Dawall Jakobsen on Saturday to advance to the final of a BWF World Tour competition overseas. This success made her just the third Indian woman to do so after Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu.
Malvika Bansod Efforts
The 23-year-old Malvika Bansod, who finished second to PV Sindhu in the Syed Modi International BWF Super 300 event two years ago, made her second-ever final appearance on the BWF World Tour.
With some brilliant moves in the first exchanges, Malvika Bansod, 34th in the world badminton rankings, tied world No. 36 Mia Blichfeldt at 9-9. However, as the Dane picked up a few paces to win 12 of the next 13 points, the game's momentum dramatically reversed from that point on.
In the second half of the first game, the Indian badminton player found it difficult to handle her opponent's strong returns.
Final Results
In the second game, the Indians fought a more serious battle and led by a few points at the half due to a few careless mistakes made by Blichfeldt. But following the restart, Blichfeldt upped the game and went on to end the match in forty-three minutes, just as she had done in the first game.
Last year, Malvika Bansod advanced to the Hylo Open quarterfinals. The latest Indian to win a title in the Hylo Open was Lakshya Sen, who advanced to the semi-finals of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
