Today's news drop shows that the Texas A&M Aggies can participate in the Southeastern Conference Title Game. Since it joined the league in 2012, the team has finally got a one-time opportunity to play and make a name.

However, it must meet some conditions to reach the SEC, that is, to win the games it has already participated in. Furthermore, the A&M coach anticipates that if the team qualifies for the SEC, it will create history for a lifetime.

Texas A&M's Chance to Reach SEC Title Game and Make History

Texas A&M Aggies Football has been playing opposite Auburn and No. 3 Texas lately. Its coach assumes that if the team wins its remaining matches, it will qualify for a spot in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) title game in Atlanta and come within the score range of 7-1 in the Conference Game.

The team’s first-year coach, Mike Elko, is excited and thrilled about this chance. He is of the opinion that the Texas A&M football team has never got a position in the SEC earlier than this. It is the time to make history by taking control of its future. Additionally, Mike is over the board, saying that it is a moment every team wishes to reach or work and train hard.

Division Rule and a Tight Race

Unlike other conferences where the division rule is followed, the SEC has eliminated it since 1991. The rule refers to dividing teams into two groups, and the best surviving team reaches the face-off championship. On the other hand, the SEC makes one large group of all the teams, and those that rank in the top position will play against each other.

Regarding this, Texas team coach Steve Sarkisian conveys his worries regarding the messed up situation. He shares that the process will make deciding which team qualifies for the championship difficult. For instance, if the SEC has six teams, all have the same record of 6-2. Furthermore, Steve anticipates that this no-division setup will make the game exciting and full of suspense, building pressure on teams.

The Current Standings

Texas A&M Aggies has a long way to go to find a spot in the Southeastern Conference Title Game. Currently, the team is tied with the Longhorns to attain the SEC’s best 5-1 marks. Not only this, Tennessee is lined next at 5-2, and Georgia is in third place with 6-2 scores. Lastly, No. 7 Alabama and No. 9 Ole Miss are next at 4-2.

The Last Tie Breaker

There is another rule in the SEC Title Game. It uses a tiebreaker strategy to determine whether the team is ready for the face-off in the championship. Tiebreaker types include head-to-head, records against all common conference opponents and records against the highest-placed common conference opponents.

Lastly, the SEC will use all conference opponents' cumulative conference winning percentage to break the tie. The teams included in the tiebreaking list are:

  1. Alabama over Georgia
  2. Georgia over Texas
  3. Georgia over Tennessee

Coaches' Perspectives

Coaches from Georgia and Ole Miss reveal that the College Football Playoff is expanded to 12 teams; it was only four earlier. The coaches, whether Kirby Smart or Lane Kiffin, anticipate that the teams do not want to participate in it.
